Vikram Gokhale and Amitabh Bachchan had known each other for more than half a century. They had seen each other’s struggle in the industry during their early days. Vikram Gokhale died on Saturday in Pune. He was 77 years old. During his struggling days in Mumbai in the early 1970s, Amitabh had helped him find accommodation in the city. Vikram made his Bollywood debut in 1971 with Parvana, which starred Amitabh.

Speaking of Amitabh Bachchan, Vikram said in an interview with ETimes two years ago: “I think people only saw his stardom, but I saw his fight. I personally witnessed his fight. He used to knock on the door of every studio. and I saw this. There are a lot of people in the film industry who have no idea what acting is and they call themselves an actor. It’s just to show off. If you want to experience real acting, then people have to watch Amitabh’s movie.”

He also said: “I’m so proud that he knows me and I know him. We’ve been friends for 55 years. I love his attitude and his nature. I still watch his movies once a week and I do in recent years.”

Vikram Gokhale is known for his extensive work in Hindi and Marathi films, television and theater. He was the son of Chandrakant Gokhale, a Marathi theater and film actor and his great-grandmother, Durgabai Kamat, was India’s first screen actress. Her grandmother Kamlabai Gokhale was the first child actress in Indian cinema.

He died at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune after multiple organ failure. His body will be kept for antim darshan at Balgandharv Rangmanch and his last rites will be performed at 6 p.m. at Vaikunth Samshan Bhumi in Pune.
