After seeing an announcement this morning from Samsung and Google that the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic can now access Google Assistant, we spent most of the day trying to find it. So far, we haven’t been successful – Google seems to have launched it for download, and we have a link for you.

To download Google Assistant on Galaxy Watch 4, just click on the link below. The link is for a special wearable version of Google Assistant that can be installed on a watch, such as the Galaxy Watch 4. The URL identifies it as “google.android.wearable.assistant”, which is different from the regular assistant you install on phones and pills.

Once you’ve clicked this link (or you can open Google Play on your Watch 4 and update/install it) and install, there are only a few steps left to get Google Assistant up and running.

When you first open Assistant from the watch, it will prompt you to “connect” by opening your phone and following some prompts. these prompts will look familiar and will basically follow the same setup process you saw when you first activated it on your phone. You’ll give it “Hey Google” access before it reminds you that you can set up Google Assistant to launch with a combination of buttons on your Watch 4. That’s it!

If you’re interested in setting Google Assistant as default or linking it to a button, here are the instructions for doing those two things:

  • To set Google Assistant as default: Open the settings on your watch, then go to Apps > Choose Default Apps and then click on the Digital Assistant button. From there, you can set Google Assistant as the default.
  • Map Google Assistant to a Button: Go to settings on your watch, then find “Additional features” > “Customize keys”. There, you’ll be able to choose for the Home button (top button) to “Double Tap” or “Press and Hold” to open Google Assistant if you like.
  • Set up “Ok Google” on your watch: To set up “Ok Google” once more go to “Settings” and then click on the “Google” option. You should now see “Assistant” as a selection. Tap that and another “Hey Google” option will appear. Tap on it and you’ll do the final “Hey Google” setup to activate it via your phone.

Enjoy Google Assistant, everyone!
