Typically, when Samsung releases a major new Galaxy phone, like the recently introduced Galaxy S23 line, they ship a decent sized software update with it. For the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Ultra, this new software version is One UI 5.1, which seems like a minor improvement over the One UI 5 build found on all other Samsung phones, aside from a long list of changes you might be interested in. if you have an old device.

Samsung hasn’t specifically said when other phones outside of the S23 series (pre-order deals) will get One UI 5.1, but we know devices that should at some point (mostly the Galaxy S20 and flagships after it). Thanks to Canadian carrier Fido, we may not need Samsung to let us know as they have posted a list of the first few devices due to receive One UI 5.1 later this month.

According to the Fido update schedule, the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 4 will receive the February security patch on February 22, as well as One UI 5.1. They updated their list to share this information earlier today.

Samsung One UI 5.1 updates

Something might change about that schedule, plus it might not land at the same time in the US, but if that persists, we at least know that Samsung didn’t plan to wait long before delivering its latest One UI to old devices. We love it.

As for what’s new in One UI 5.1, check out smoother and faster animations, new battery widget, new weather widget, faster access to Samsung Expert RAW mode, improvements in the Gallery app, collaboration with Samsung Notes, improved controls multimedia output, something DeX. -or-other and much more (via WinFuture).

We’ll be watching for updates as we get closer to the end of the month and let you know. Don’t be surprised if Verizon Samsung devices come close to that date.
