Exploring Energy in Transition

Scientists agree that a third of the world’s population could face uninhabitable conditions by 2070 if current rates of global warming continue.¹

If the world is to reach zero emissions by the middle of this century and secure a habitable land, efforts to implement sustainable energy must be accelerated. This acceleration depends in part on bridging the natural information gap between the ambitions of governments and corporations and the concrete actions being taken. The ecosystem of capital investments in renewable energy needs information not only about desires and ambitions, but also about real results and opportunities.

To fill this gap, Clarivate has developed a new data collection process to evaluate sustainable energy research and innovation. This process harnesses the power of industry-leading research, patents, and patent protection data.

As part of our special report Exploring Energy in Transition, we examine the relationship between global research and innovation in the deployment and development of sustainable energy sources. We identify the gaps that exist today, along with trends and needs for further concentration of research, and explore where the opportunities lie, across sustainable energy sources and geography.
