Every year, online job search firms collect data on salaries, skills, and the overall job market for tech professionals, usually focusing on software engineers.

Data from job search companies Dice and Hired were released. Those numbers for 2022 were eagerly anticipated given the unrest caused by a spate of tech layoffs in the second half of the year, estimated by Dice to be over 140,000. The data they collect does not compare apples to apples, but I have read both reports, pulled data from previous years to give the numbers some perspective whenever possible, and summarized them in eight charts. Dice figures are from a survey conducted among registered job seekers and site visitors between August 16, 2022 and October 17, 2022, with a total of 7,098 completed surveys. Hired’s analysis included data from 68,500 job applicants and 494,000 interview requests collected from the site between January 2021 and December 2022, as well as a survey of 1,300 software engineers.
