We’ve heard and written a lot about how the iPhone 14 Pro will use a punch-hole + tablet design as opposed to the iPhone 14’s notch, but all we’ve had to do so far is make educated guesses about how it will look on the really. We now have what appears to be our first real look at displays.
As you can see in the picture above (via Weibo), the iPhone 14 line will indeed be split into two regular models and two Pro models with the same screen sizes, 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch. The Pro models seem a bit taller with slightly thinner bezels. They also have a smaller cutout for the receiver.
But by far the most interesting feature of the display panels is the placement of the sensors. On the iPhone 14, the TrueDepth camera is the same as ever, with a punch-hole for the selfie camera and a set of sensors next to it, all housed in a notch. It appears to be the same size as the iPhone 13, or very similar to it.
On the other hand, the Pro models are very different. There is no notch, rumor has it, but a hole for the selfie camera and a pill-shaped cutout for TrueDepth sensors. It’s significantly smaller than the notch and allows more screen to wrap around the camera, but it doesn’t look like you’re going to win much usable real estate. The placement of the cutouts is quite deep and goes all the way to the bottom of the notch on non-professional models, which means no vertical space will be gained.
But without the cutout, the iPhone will appear much larger. And you can bet Apple’s renders will be great. With a screen that wraps around the sensors, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be more immersive than ever and look completely different than non-professional models.
