Kalpetta: In an update on the incident in which a pregnant woman took her own life by jumping into a river with her five-year-old daughter, it is learned that her in-laws, who have been charged in the case, are believed to be on the run. According to reports, the family, including the husband of the deceased woman, could not be found by the police.

Darshana (32), wife of Om Prakash, from Venniyode, and her daughter Dakhsa jumped into a river, in a suspected suicide case on June 13. She was four months pregnant at the time and died while undergoing treatment in a hospital. While Daksha’s body was found only after four days of strenuous efforts.

Following the incident, Kambalakkad police went to the home of Darshana’s in-laws for questioning. However, the house was locked and it is suspected that the family is on the run. Furthermore, the in-laws had previously applied for early bail in court after Darshana’s family accused them of abetting the suicide.

According to Darshana’s family, she committed suicide following severe mental harassment by Om Prakash and her father Rishabharaj. They also alleged that her in-laws physically abused her and forced her to have an abortion.

Meanwhile, the matter, which was previously investigated by Kambalakkad Police, has now been handed over to Kalpetta DySP TN Sajeeevan. The investigation is ongoing.
