Chris Rock is set to make history next year as the first comedian to perform live on Netflix. In a press release shared with POPSUGAR, the streamer announced on November 10 that the legendary comic will be hosting its second comedy special on the platform for its first-ever global live streaming event. Rock previously launched his Netflix special “Tamborine” in February 2018.

“Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation,” Robbie Praw, Netflix’s vice president for stand-up and comedy formats, said in a statement. “We are thrilled that the world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be a part of Netflix history. It will be a moment to remember and we are so honored to have Chris carry this torch.”

It looks like Rock is another comedian who will make Netflix the home of his future specials. Others who liberated several stand-ups with the streamer include Kevin Hart, Dave Chappelle, Mike Epps, jerry seinfeldand Amy Schumer.

Following his infamous Oscars slap incident Earlier this year, Rock got busy with his own Ego Death comedy world tour, as well as other joint shows with Hart and Chappelle – who he’s currently on the road with. A date for Rock’s live Netflix special has yet to be announced, but the streamer confirms it will happen in early 2023.
