Latest Technology News: Check out 13 minutes of gameplay from Armored Core VI – The Verge
As the Rubicon fires heat up, FromSoftware has released an in-depth review of Shield Core VIthe gameplay. The roughly 13-minute presentation covered everything from armored core movement abilities and customization options to the types of enemies you’ll face as a Mercenary 621.
Of story trailer that was released last weekwe know that in AC6, you’ll assume the role of 621, a bio-engineered human whose sole purpose is to pilot mechs under the guidance of your master, Walter. We also know that you will fight for control of the mysterious but volatile resource coral, native to only one planet in the galaxy: Rubicon.
In Shield Core VIyour mechs are heavy, but they can move. It’s truly fascinating how FromSoftware engineered these mechs to convey the weight associated with a million-ton metal war machine that can also flip and fly around the battlefield as if its innards were just hollow bird bones. From the trailer, you’ll use these maneuvering abilities to traverse huge, multi-level stages that encompass all manner of environments, from gargantuan industrial factories to sandstorm-swept deserts and frozen mountain ranges.
Each core has four weapons, one for each arm and shoulder, and the garage will let you customize each part to suit your playstyle. There are projectile weapons, power swords, missile launchers, shields, and more. You can also change your main unit and chest or base unit to give your robot the look you want.
In battle, Shield Core VI doesn’t seem too reliant on his precise dodge and attack mechanics soulsborne siblings. But it also doesn’t look like you can just spam missiles. Each enemy will be vulnerable to a specific type of damage, and using that damage enough will stun your enemy, briefly incapacitating them and leaving them vulnerable to an all out attack.
In a neat bit of the trailer, 621 has to dismantle a massive mobile platform, dismantling it piece by piece. The trailer didn’t spoil the fight too much, but the size and scale of the battle reminds me of that huge mecha boss fight at the start of To deny: automata.
Armored Core VI: Fires of the Rubicon is less than a month away and will be released on August 23 on PlayStation, Xbox and Steam.
