OpenAI has officially launched the ChatGPT app for Android after a pre-order period on Google Play. The app is now accessible in select countries, including the United States, India, Bangladesh, and Brazil.

Announcing their launch on Android, Open AI tweeted: “ChatGPT for Android is now available for download in the US, India, Bangladesh and Brazil!”
For those residing in other countries, they can still pre-order the app as OpenAI plans to expand its availability to other regions over the next week.
Open AI added, “We plan to expand the rollout to additional countries over the next week.”

Although the official ChatGPT app has been available on iOS for quite some time, the Android version marks a milestone, given the largest user base on Android devices worldwide.

The mobile app offers a user-friendly interface optimized for mobile devices, which makes it easy to interact with ChatGPT as if you were messaging a friend. Just type your text at the bottom of the screen, and ChatGPT will respond with tips and tricks to suit your needs.

For existing OpenAI account holders, the mobile app syncs with their accounts, allowing access to past conversations on all devices if they have “chat history and training” enabled. Note that these parameters cannot be separated; allowing one means allowing the other.

ChatGPT, which was launched by the Sam Altman-led company in November last year, has been available on Apple’s iOS platform since May. OpenAI currently offers free accounts and subscription accounts.

With a subscription, users can access the improved large language model, GPT-4, as well as additional features. ChatGPT Plus, the subscription tier, will also be available to Android users through in-app purchases. Existing subscribers can seamlessly access ChatGPT Plus features on Android with their current subscriptions.
