Thiruvananthapuram: Model Government Upper Secondary School for Boys in Thycaud witnessed a historic moment on Friday as S Mohan Kumar, the Mission Director of Chandrayan 3, India’s third mission to the moon, and A RajajanDirector of Satish Dhawan Space Centervisited their alma mater after nearly 45 years.

The celebratory air was heightened when they were joined by some of their classmates from the Class of 1979.
After a brief introduction by Principal KP Pramod, Kumar and Rajarajan addressed the students reminiscing about their school memories and also shared their thoughts with the children on achieving goals and achieving success. Their camaraderie started from Class V at Model School, and they’ve been colleagues throughout their careers.

Our job requires us to deal with different kinds of problems every day and to communicate and understand people with different interests and thought processes. The training provided by the teachers here has laid the foundation for us to effectively manage our tasks and be who we are right now, A Rajarajan said.
They took a trip down memory lane about their time at school and did not forget to mention a few teachers who greatly influenced their personality, their dreams and, therefore, their future. It was Nobu Mohammad sir who solidified a foundation in mathematics for me. We were all members of his club where we learned about mathematical models, and it was those classes that combined concepts of math and physics that made us proficient enough to enter the scientific field, recalls Mohankumar.
After receiving my school’s memorial award, I feel like I’ve served my life’s purpose and there’s nothing greater I can achieve,” he added.
After the ceremony, the guests visited their old classrooms, clicked some pictures there and greeted the teachers and students.
Vice Principal Freeda Mary, PTA President K Gopi, former faculty member Balachandran and others participated in the event.
