Latest Technology News: Big change coming to Apple Watch Ultra 2 – HT Tech
Are you waiting for the Apple Watch Ultra 2? You may know that the current version weighs nearly twice as much as the lightest 8-Series model and is still significantly heavier than the 45mm models. However, Apple has exciting plans to address this issue and aims to make a change this year.
Apple Ultra watch 2 with lighter design
According to a reliable backer with a history of accurate Apple information, the upcoming Apple Watch Ultra 2 would have a lighter design compared to its predecessor.
One possibility to achieve this weight reduction could be to replace some titanium mechanical parts with 3D printed alternatives.
The current Apple Watch Ultra weighs 61.3g, considerably heavier than the 41mm aluminum Apple Watch Series 8 at 32.2g and the stainless steel options at 42.3g and 51.5g for the 41mm and 45mm models respectively.
Recent leaks
THE leak Chinese social media site Weibo, i.e. Setsuna Digital, did not provide specific details on the exact weight reduction of the Ultra Watch 2. However, there is speculation that the switch to 3D printing technology in the manufacturing process could be a contributing factor to the weight reduction.
According to Toms Guide, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo mentioned in a recent Medium job that Apple is actively integrating 3D printing into its production process, and some of the Ultra 2’s titanium mechanical parts will be produced using this method. Although 3D printed mechanical parts may still require additional finishing processes, they are expected to improve production efficiency and reduce costs.
3D printed parts
The mechanical parts that are likely to be 3D printed are the digital crown, the side button and the action buttons, as these are the main mechanical components of the device.
Apple Ultra Watch 2 release date
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 release schedule should be in the second half of 2023 (“2:23”), which could coincide with Apple’s event in September, where the iPhone 15 should also be presented.
