Pride month is celebrated nationwide in June. It encompasses all things LGBTQIA and is an inclusive movement for those who identify and their allies. However, in the spirit of representing and celebrating the culture of blackness that intersects with being a proud member of the queer community, Atlanta Pride Weekend exists – and believe me, it’s quite the vibe. . Atlanta Pride Five Day Deal delivered in a way that matters to its participants, as it was complete with entertainment, a film festival, worship, and a public health component that deals with HIV testing and resources for COVID-19 and Monkeypox vaccinations.

On Friday, September 2, Atlanta Pride blew it up with an inaugural Black Excellence Influencers Dinner at the Starling Hotel. The event also served as a fundraiser to benefit Atlanta Pride Weekend. The Pride film festival is also a first which collapsed on September 3. The festival wasn’t just free and open to the general public at IPIC theaters in Midtown, Atlanta. LGBTQIA+ feature films include Mixed Girl and Black and Porn, and B-Boy Blues directed by Jussie Smollet.

A plethora of events took place throughout the city that were tied to Atlanta Pride Weekend, including the Wether Block Party at 383 Marietta St., which is a lesbian event held annually. The allies were present support friends in the LGBT+ community as well.

“I think everyone has to stick together,” said Takiyah Turner 11 Alive. “Whatever people’s choices are, as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone and it’s mutually agreed, who cares?”

Sunday ended with Pure Heat, the infamous concert series held in Piedmont Park featuring some of the hottest acts. Rain was not a deciding factor for eager concert-goers. Cardi B, Lil’ Kim, Keyshia Cole, Ray J, Tamar Braxton, The City Girls, and Saucy Santana, to name a few, are former performers to hit the stage. This year’s lineup included Steezo, Kandi Burruss, Joseline Hernandez and Jhonni Blaze
