Latest Kerala Local News: Another arrested in human trafficking case – The Hindu

Ernakulam Rural Crime Branch has made another arrest in a registered case of an alleged attempted human trafficking through Kochi Airport.

The arrested is Muhammed Haneeba, 42, from Tiruchirappalli of Tamil Nadu. Two defendants had previously been arrested in the registered case for the alleged attempt to smuggle seven women from Tamil Nadu through Kochi airport on July 17 last year.

An investigation was underway under the supervision of District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) Vivek Kumar when the accused who had been in hiding was arrested in Tiruchirappalli.

The racket allegedly targeted illiterate and financially backward women from villages in Tamil Nadu by luring them with passport, visa, ticket and free medical examination. The victims used to come to the airport with visit visas to Dubai, then their passports were attached with pages stamped with the Kuwait visa.

The defendant used this scheme because it was difficult for illiterate women to enter Kuwait. When they arrived in Kuwait, they would have been handed over to the agent concerned. Women between the ages of 30 and 40 were taken to Kuwait under the pretext of being hired as domestic helpers.

A team led by DySP V. Rajeev and consisting of Sub-Inspectors Santhosh Baby and N. Sabu, Assistant Sub-Inspector EB Sunil Kumar and senior civilian police officers PR Sreeraj and NS Sudheesh made the arrest.
