LOS ANGELES – Angela Bassett and Jamie Lee Curtis specify it, they loved it Ariana DeBose rap about women nominated at last weekend’s BAFTA Awards, which went viral and brought out vocal haters.
The Oscar-winning ‘West Side Story’ actress rapped about ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ star Bassett, singing “Angela Bassett did the thing.”
“He wants to let everyone who can hear the sound of my voice know that I loved and appreciated it,” Bassett told USA TODAY on the Screen Actors Guild red carpet Sunday.
She loved him so much that by accepting the NAACP Picture Award for Entertainer of the Year on Saturday, Bassett made a point of starting his speech with the same line: “I guess Angela Bassett did the thing!”
Ariana DeBose deactivates Twitter after BAFTA rap:Show producer calls criticism ‘unfair’

Bassett said the speech was her way of helping change the public’s sentiment about the performance.
“At first it was one-sided,” Bassett said. “But I said, ‘Wait, be patient, it can turn.’ And it started to turn positive. To be a beautiful moment. For both of us. And I’m so happy because I loved it.”
Curtis was seen shaking her head in the BAFTA audience when DeBose ended.
“Mom can move,” Curtis told USA TODAY on Sunday, decrying rap critics. “It was fun, honestly, I have no idea what freaks people out online. If that’s what freaks people out, they really need to examine themselves. It’s ridiculous.”
California storms wreak havoc on the red carpet
One of the biggest red carpet weekends of Hollywood’s awards season had an uninvited guest: severe winter storms bringing rain and even snow.
Saturday’s NAACP Image Awards and Producers Guild Awards were particularly touched and hotly discussed on the SAG red carpet on Sunday.
“It was very cold yesterday. It was so cold,” Sheryl Lee Ralph of “Abbott Elementary” said from the relative warmth of the SAG red carpet. “And my dress was so heavy. I was like, are we going to pass here? It was like, ‘Oh, my God.’ “
Even Curtis admitted she wore “comfy shoes” on the SAG red carpet. “Because I thought it was a long dress, no one will see them.”
On Sunday, Fran Drescher was worried about what was happening at home. “My roof is leaking like nobody’s business,” she said. “Now I have to wait for the rains to stop and the roof to dry before I can fix it. It’s very old school. There are pots all over the house.”
This ‘Abbott Elementary’ kiss between Janine and Gregory is always hot

Ralph was still talking about the long-awaited “Abbott Elementary” kiss between Janine (Quinta Brunson) and Gregory (Tyler James Williams) on Wednesday’s episode. It only took a season and a half of tension, and then the two characters cooled the tension.
“Janine and Gregory need therapy. They need individual therapy. And they need couples therapy,” Ralph said. “But I like where it’s going.”
Not that Ralph has any idea when and if the two characters, who both have partners, will reunite. “I don’t know where it’s actually going. But I really like it.”
Michael Imperioli Has A Classic Acting Early History From ‘Lean on Me’

Michael Imperioli walked the carpet with his SAG-nominated ‘White Lotus’ co-stars, and had a sweet story when asked about his debut role which earned the ‘Sopranos’ star his card actor SAG.
The young Imperioli had a small role in the classic 1981 drama “Lean on Me” starring Morgan Freeman. You may not remember the game.
“I had a line, but it got cut. The line was, ‘I’m going to be a star!’ ” said Imperioli. “So I’m in the movie. But I don’t have a line.”
At least the cut line has come true.
Imperioli’s on-screen son, Adam DiMarco, also had a great story. The actor earned his SAG card with his “White Lotus” role. “That’s pretty cool,” DMarco said.
