7 cool new Android features for your phone and watch

[ad_1]

It’s June 2023, Android feature release time! This morning, Google unveiled at least 7 new features coming to Android phones, tablets, and wearables, all of which don’t require you to own anything part of the Pixel brand. This fun is for everyone.

Google shared the details of the new Android features in blog posts this morning, pointing out new widgets in several apps, a cool Google Play Books for kids reading feature, water themes in Emoji Kitchen, and a bunch of Wear OS goodies. , including Spotify getting new features.

Here’s everything coming to your Android device today, June 1st.

3 new widgets for Google TV, Finance and Google News

Google News Widget

As this headline states, Google is about to release new phone and tablet widgets for Google News, Google Finance, and Google TV. You can see the Finance and News widgets above where you’ll find selected stocks to track, as well as headlines selected throughout the day. In the Google TV widget, you’ll see personalized suggestions for movies and TV shows.

This will arrive on devices running Android 6+.

Carry OS goodies from Spotify, Wallet and Keep

Spotify Wear OS

As for Wear OS, Google says that Spotify is releasing an update that will let you “press the play button right from your wrist” so Spotify’s DJ can deliver personalized tunes. They are also going to release new tiles and watch face complications. Both of these elements can be seen above.

For Google Wallet, Google adds support for SmarTrip and Clipper maps in Washington DC and San Francisco. It’s a commuting thing that will probably only make sense to those who live in those cities.

And finally Google Keep gets a tile for a single Google note or to-do list that makes it easier to interact with the world of Keep with a swipe and a tap on your wrist.

In terms of accessibility, the Spotify and Wallet add-ons are for Wear OS 2+, while the Google Keep tile is for Wear OS 3+.

Emoji Kitchen becomes watery

Emoji kitchen sharks

Emoji Kitchen, which lives on Gboard and lets you create fun emoji combinations, is getting new water-themed emoji combinations. An example that you will immediately see would be a laughing-crying shark, because no emoji is used as often as a laughing-crying face. Of course, we would use it here as well.

People who use Emoji Kitchen, do I need to figure this out?

Reading practice is now available

Google Play Books - Reading Practice

Google is launching something called Reading Practice through Google Play Books that helps new readers work on their vocabulary and comprehension skills. Google Play Books should have “thousands” of children’s e-books marked with a “Practice” icon that kids can dive into to try out. This will allow you to hear the pronunciation of unfamiliar words, provide real-time feedback, and practice any mispronunciations.

Reading Practice is available on phones and tablets running Android 8+ in the US and in English.

You can find a list of reading textbooks in this link on Google Play.

The darknet report is available to most Google users

Google Dark Web report

Remember the dark web report that Google announced as a new payment feature for Google One users back in March? This dark web report is now available for “most” US Google accounts through the Google One website and app.

If you go to the Google One website to run the report, you’ll run a scan to see if your Gmail address has been exposed on the dark web and get recommendations on what you can do to protect yourself. If you’re a paid Google One member, you’ll get a little more information from the report, such as if your social security number is publicly available.

And it’s all! Google tells us that everything we talked about will start rolling out from today.
