“65,” in theaters now, stars Adam Driver as an astronaut who crash-lands on a hostile alien world.

Except, while Driver might be a futuristic traveler, he actually lives 65 million years in the past and finds himself on an Earth crawling with dinosaurs (literally, those suckers can crawl!) and all his know-how technology and high-tech gadgets won’t save him this time. Oh, and it crashes just before the asteroid that killed all the dinosaurs crashes into the planet. So there is also a kind of countdown.

TheWrap spoke to Driver, who is more likely to be found in thoughtful characters like Noah Baumbach’s “Marriage Story” or “White Noise,” about what appealed to him. (Watch the video above.)

“Lots of stuff – dinosaurs, laser guns, prehistoric land. And that it was big and it had a massive show and it was a family movie, where anyone could go see it. But it didn’t deteriorate as a character-driven movie. There’s not a lot of dialogue, so the metaphors were really obvious about two people dealing with grief at the same time,” Driver said of what brought him to “65.”

Driver also happens, quite memorably, to get trapped in quicksand during “65,” something that seems to only happen in movies and TV shows. And Driver confessed he was afraid of being trapped in quicksand.

“I remember when I was a kid, everyone was trapped in quicksand. I was watching reruns of ‘Zorro’ and it felt like Zorro was trapped in quicksand. Everyone was trapped in the quicksand. He went through a phase,” Driver said. “I had a terror when I was a kid because I saw so many people in the quicksand. I was like, Oh f— is this a problem I’m gonna face in life?”
