“65” arrived.

The new sci-fi thriller stars Adam Driver as a space traveler who crash-lands on an alien planet after his ship is struck by asteroids. Except it’s not an alien planet, it’s Earth 65 million years ago. And he’s not dealing with marauding alien creatures; he fights dinosaurs. (He also has to keep a young passenger alive. She’s the sole survivor of the crash.) We learned more about this project from talking with writer/directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. Watch the video above.

Beck and Woods previously collaborated on the script for “A Quiet Place,” which ended up establishing an entire franchise (Paramount is currently working on the third film, a spin-off) and centers on an equally ingenious but eye-catching high concept. .

“In the wake of ‘A Quiet Place’, this idea of ’65’ was already in the making in our heads. Instead of one of the crazy opportunities that still make our heads spin, like trying to do something with Lucasfilm or doing sequels… it was about going back to the writers room and incubating something that would from us 11-year-old versions. giddy with joy,” Beck explained. “And as two kids who grew up loving ‘Jurassic Park’ and all things dinosaur, ’65’ was really this opportunity to do something on a grand scale, but still with a heart and with characters whose audience hopefully cares.”

“When we had this idea of a space traveler crashing into an alien planet and we the audience start realizing that it’s not an alien planet, it’s Earth and the dinosaurs, once we had that core idea, there was nothing that could stop Scott and I from writing it,” Woods said. “It just poured out on us. It was so much fun. It was a joy to view and write.

“65” now plays exclusively in theaters.
