Until the future finally arrives and we find a good replacement for lithium-ion batteries, the only real breakthroughs we’re constantly seeing in the battery world have to do with charging speed. Companies like OnePlus and Huawei are pushing the boundaries of how fast phones can charge, and thanks to a recently revealed list, it looks like we’re approaching another milestone.

Allocated Tom’s Equipment, USB-C cables have been found that support power delivery up to 240W, capable of delivering 48V and 5 amps. We’re talking about a big deal for a small USB-C cable, the same cable that can charge your smartphone and laptop.

Currently, some of the fastest chargers on the market are the 80W OnePlus 10 Pro, some 120W Xiaomi devices, Vivo phones, and a few others. Here in the US we don’t have many options in the 50W+ category, so the idea of 240W seems overwhelming to us.

While it’s good to see these cables being made, we need chargers and devices to support them right now. OPPO is the company working hard on this by announcing 240W SuperWok just at the beginning of this year. This technology allows you to charge a 4500mAh battery in just 9 minutes (10V/24A). OPPO says that even at these speeds, heat dissipation standards are met, which is reassuring.

My phone may not be ready, but my body is ready.
